May 05, 2013  •  Leave a Comment

Just returned from a weekend in Moab for the 2013 10th Annual Moab Photo Symposium. I took 2 workshops - 1 with symposium organizer Bruce Hucko on water relections in Mill Creek Basin. The other workshop was with Colorado "Photographer Laureate" John Fielder who took us into Arches National Park to shoot photos along the area known as "Park Avenue" and ended up shooting sunset light on Balanced Rock as seen above. There was another workshop with Jack Dykinga that brought both groups together for this sunset shot.

They received over 900 submissions from all over the US and 4 other countries. Only 90 or so were accepted. This photo was the only one of 5 I submitted, to get into this show which opens at the Louisville Arts Center on June 1st.

Arrived in San Diego on Thursday (Jan. 17, 2013) and have been shooting photos each morning and late afternoon. Yesterday, I went to Point Loma and shot this photo from the top landing of the spiral staircase inside the old lighthouse, looking straight down at the bottom by the entrance way. I was unable to use my tripod due to the angle I needed with the camera, so I held my hand as steady as could be and released the shutter at 1/8th of a second using my Nikkor 18-200mm VR lens.
